In his first match of the 2022 season, Djokovic defeated Musetti in Dubai.
Novak Djokovic’s start of the season was interrupted after he was deported from Australia in January but this was not an end for him. Novak Djokovic marked his return with a win over Italian Musetti in Dubai.
The first set was decided in the fourth and fifth games, with Djokovic converting his second breakpoint for 3-1 and then returning from 0/40 to reinforce the break as Musetti was kept at bay by his pace across the court.
The top seed faced challenges in the second set as well, with Musetti’s return game posing a significant concern as Djokovic fended off four break points to win 4-2.
Djokovic became infamous for refusing to be vaccinated and was deported from Australia for the very same reason. he was able to compete in Dubai because the vaccine is not mandatory in the United Arab Emirates.
The Serbian is a five-time winner at Dubai. Even if Djokovic maintains his status this week, his unwillingness to be vaccinated could cause issues and cost him ranking points, especially with two Masters tournaments in the United States coming up, his
number one ranking could be in danger.
