CPI(M) to support Samajwadi Party ahead of UP elections

In a press conference on Friday, former Rajya Sabha MP and leader of Communist Party of India (Marxist) Sitaram Yechury announced that they will be supporting the Samajwadi Party (SP) in Uttar Pradesh elections.

As the main agenda is to unite against Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) in UP and defeat them. Therefore he extended his support to Akhilesh Yadav to counter the ‘Hindutva Agenda’ of BJP.

In order to unite the secular forces, he said, “We will support the Samajwadi Party in UP elections. We’re only contesting from only 4 seats in UP. The party shall work for the broadest possible mobilisation of secular forces against Hindutva agenda.”

Further explaining their intentions, Yechury said, “the primary task before us is to defeat BJP. The party will also support joint platforms of united actions of the class and mass organization.”

In his Twitter post, he shared said the main task is to isolate and defeat the BJP.

Talking about the Punjab elections, Yechury clarified that his party will only support those who can defeat BJP.

The first phase of UP elections will start from 10th February in the seven-phase election process and results will be declared on 10th March.
