The assembly polls in Goa and Uttrakhand concluded yesterday, with the second phase of Uttar Pradesh polls.
In yesterday voting, in Goa, 301 candidates contested for 40 seats, Goa registered 78.94% voting turnouts. The highest voter turnout was recorded in the Sanquelim constituency at 89.64%. North Goa has registered a maximum turnout of 79% a little more than South Goa at 78%.
“In today’s polling 14 EVM’s & 8 ballet were replaced,” said, Goa Chief Electoral Officer Kunal.
All India Congress Committee (AICC) in charge of Goa, Dinesh Gundu Rao said, “people have come up in large numbers to give a decisive vote and their expression will be seen in the results.” Adding further he said, “there is a huge anti-incumbency wave and that’s the reason this high number of voting is taking place. I think it’s going to be a very good result for congress and we will get an absolute majority. this is what our people at the ground are also telling us.”
Meanwhile, Uttarakhand recorded 65.1% polling in the Assembly elections where 632 candidates contested 70 assembly seats.
“Polling was held peacefully at the 11,697 polling booths across Uttarkhand with 65.1% of the electorate casting their votes till the close of polls in the 70 seats,” said, state Chief Electoral Officer Saujanya.
Ex-CM of Uttrakhand thanked the people of Uttrakhand for voting in huge numbers. “People in Uttarakhand have created history by voting in huge numbers. I hope that the new government will work for a golden future of Uttarakhand,” said, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami in Khatima.
In the second phase of UP polls, Uttar Pradesh, as many as 586 candidates contested for 55 seats spread across Saharanpur, which recorded the highest voting, Bijnor, Moradabad, Sambhal, Rampur, Amroha, Budaun, Bareilly and Shahjahanpur districts, where 60.44% of voting turnouts were registered.
Allegations of false voting and EVM tampering were also made by the Samajwadi Party and BSP, however, the officials said ‘the charges were not found to be true.’
The first phase of UP polls registered 62.4% of the voting turnout. Now the Third phase will be conducted on February 20th along with Punjab polls.
All the results will be declared on March 10th.
