Prince Harry launches lawsuit against UK newspaper publisher

Prince Harry is suing Associated Newspapers, one of the largest newspaper publishers in the United Kingdom, for libel over a newspaper article saying that he tried to withhold details of his legal battle to reinstate his police protection from the public.

According to a source familiar with the matter, Harry is suing the Mail on Sunday over an article published on Feb. 20 saying that he requested a confidentiality order on documents and witness testimony in the case.

Prince Harry is worried about his children’s safety whenever the whole family plans to visit the United Kingdom. While senior members of the British royal family are given police protection funded by the taxpayer, this right was withdrawn for Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle when they quit royal duties in 2020 to forge new careers in Los Angeles. Since then, the couple has enlisted the help of a private security firm.

In January, his legal representatives stated that these agreements did not provide the prince with the level of safety he required when in the United Kingdom, and that he desired to pay for police protection.
