Mob lynches man over blasphemy allegation in Pakistan

In central Pakistan, a mob lynched a man for reportedly burning portions of the Muslim holy book the Koran, and scores of individuals were arrested, police and authorities said on Sunday.

Additionally more than 60 persons suspected of being involved in the lynching have been detained, according to a government spokesperson, with more suspects being identified through social media footage recorded by locals in Tulamba, Khanewal district.

According to police officer Munawar Hussain, the mob gathered at a mosque on Saturday night after the son of the prayer leader stated that he had seen the man burning pages from the holy book.

According to Hussain, police came to discover the man unconscious and bound to a tree, and the mob also attacked the officers.

According to the information acquired thus far by authorities, the deceased person, Muhammad Mushtaq, was in his 50s and claimed to have mental disabilities. The murder occurred just over two months after a Sri Lankan manufacturing manager was beaten to death and set on fire by a crowd in Sialkot, Punjab, for blasphemy.
