Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan has turned a blind eye to Uyghur Muslim persecution in China, claiming that the reality in the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region (XUAR) is not what Western media depicts.
In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Imran Khan defended “all-weather ally” China, saying that Pakistan’s ambassador to China, Moinul Haq, has visited XUAR and that the situation there is “not what the Western media depicts.”
When asked about China’s treatment of Uyghur Muslims, Prime Minister Imran Kahn, as is customary, pointed his finger at India and claimed that comparing Pakistan’s criticism of India’s slaughter of innocent people in Kashmir to the situation of Xinjiang is unfair.
“Kashmir is a disputed territory between Pakistan and India, and India is ruled by RSS ideology,” Khan explained.
Due to Pakistan’s growing reliance on China for economic aid and diplomatic support, the Pakistani government has little choice but to publicly endorse Chinese policies, despite the fact that China is responsible for the genocide of Uyghur Muslims.
Islamabad’s backing for Beijing in the face of accusations of human rights violations in the Xinjiang region came at a time when 243 international organisations urged for action against China for its human rights violations.
