“Lakers superstar LeBron James was named an NBA All-Star Game captain for the fifth time in a row as the league announced the starters.”
Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets finished first in the East voting and was named a captain, but a sprained left knee will probably keep him from playing in the All-Star Game.
James and Durant were among the 10 players chosen as starters for the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse game on February 20. Reserves will be announced on Thursday. On the East’s frontcourt, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks is the only other starter, while Chicago Bulls DeMar DeRozan and Atlanta Hawks Trae Young form the backcourt.
Canadian Andrew Wiggins, a forward for the Golden State Warriors, joins James and Jokic among the top vote-getters in the West. Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors and Ja Morant of the Memphis Grizzlies are the guards. There will be an All-Star draft on February 10 and a slam dunk contest on February 19.
Both James and Durant will draft their teams from a pool of eligible players and are not required to draft according to conference affiliation or position.
