‘Take a Break’ from social media says Instagram

Instagram has launched a new ‘Take a Break’ promotion in a number of countries, including India. Take a Break will remind Instagram users to step away from the site and focus on other things on a regular basis. The platform will also send out a message to users informing them of the new addition.

The health of young people is essential to us, and we’re focused on ensuring that time spent on Instagram is meaningful and people feel good about it, stated by Natasha Jog, Facebook India’s Public Policy Manager for Instagram.

WE’VE LAUNCHED ‘TAKE A BREAK’, TO MEANINGFULLY IMPROVE THE EXPERIENCE ON INSTAGRAM FOR YOUNG PEOPLE, PARENTS AND GUARDIANS. WE AIM TO CONTINUE OUR WORK TO CREATE A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE ENVIRONMENT ON INSTAGRAM, SO YOUNG PEOPLE CAN USE IT TO EXPLORE THEIR INTERESTS, AND FIND COMMUNITY,” SAYS NATASHA JOG

Through a campaign dubbed ‘Break Zaroori hai,’ Instagram works with ‘We The Young’ to bring the feature to India. The month-long campaign will illustrate scenarios in which young people might benefit from this functionality.

Instagram said in a press release that ‘We The Young’ will collaborate with creators, mental health experts, and other stakeholders to create multilingual content that emphasises the importance of making informed decisions about how much time is spent on the platform and informs users on how to incorporate the ‘Take A Break’ feature into their social media routine.

Take a Break is available now for iOS and will be released on Android in a few weeks.
