‘PM is busy with UP elections and not prioritising student’s evacuation from Ukraine’: Mamata Banerjee

Chief Minister of West Bengal, Mamata Banerjee alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi is busy with Uttar Pardesh elections, while students are still strangled in the war-torn areas of Ukraine.

While addressing media on Wednesday, Banerjee asked the Central government that if they were ware about the Ukraine development, why they did not start the evacuation program earlier? In a statement, she said, “Somebody died, some people are moving from here & there. somebody is waiting in bunkers, somebody is waiting in Romania, somebody is not getting food. They search for food & get killed. When the Govt was aware of developments, why didn’t they bring the students earlier?”

Bengal CM also claimed that she will also go to UP just like PM Modi, to support Akhilesh Yadav, the opposition leader, the only difference between them according to her is that, she is going to UP after completing all her responsibilities as CM of Bengal. Banerjee is openly supporting Yadav in the UP elections.

Meanwhile, Banerjee also offered the central government a joint sitting proposal including all the political parties, amidst the Ukraine- Russia crisis. She clarified in a statement that she is not interfering with the work of External Affairs, however, there’s still a lot to be done for the strangled citizens in Ukraine. “I don’t want to criticise govt, especially for matters of external affairs, because we’re one. But sometimes I’ve seen that external affairs matter, because of some coordination gap & political business, we’re lagging behind & our students are stuck there.”
