Binge Alert: Netflix gets Taarak Mehta Ka ‘Chhota’ Chashma on the OTT platform

One of the most famous and longest-running family comedy-drama “Taarak Mehta Ka Oolta Chashma” gets a spin-off in the form of an animated series, called “Taarak Mehta Ka Chhota Chashma.” The 40 episodes long series is now available on the popular American OTT platform, Netflix from February 24th.

The animated show, created by Asit Kumar Modi was already released on the Sony YAY app in 2021 and now the same show is released by Netflix.

The show has all the original characters who are loved and adored by the Indian audience but different voice artists have given their voices to these characters while trying hard to maintain the original flavour of each character’s voice.

The creator of the popular serial, Asit Kumar Modi said in a statement, “It is becoming evident that as long as the content is great, it can be seamlessly adapted across mediums. Last month, a report by Amazon revealed Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah as the most searched TV show in Hindi on its Fire TV Device. Now, the show’s animated version, Taarak Mehta Ka Chhota Chashmah will be available to viewers on Netflix. We’re glad that our viewers especially, kids will get to enjoy the show on OTT as well.” (reported by Live Mint).

Talking about his future plans regarding the show and turning it into a whole immersive media experience, Modi said, “The IP has generated a lot of interest across many brands that the company wishes to capitalize on. We are in the process of launching a host of ventures including an exclusive line of TMKCC merchandise and games. There are other interesting announcements to come from Neela Film Productions and we are on the brink of breaking into a completely new dimension of entertainment.”

Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah is a long-running daily comedy show, first aired in 2008 and now in its 14th year with over 3300 episodes. Other than its flagship show, Neela Film Productions Pvt. Ltd also streams Gokuldhamchi Duniyadari in Marathi and Tarak Mama Ayyo Rama in Telugu on YouTube.

The original show is based on ‘Duniya Ne Undha Chasma’ (which loosely translates into “Seeing the world through upside-down glasses”) written by Indian columnist and journalist Taarak Mehta for the Gujarati weekly magazine Chitralekha.

The second season will be released on March 10th on Netflix. The animated show is a good weekend watch with your family and kids.
