On the occasion of the third anniversary of the National war memorial, Chief of Integrated Defence Staff, Air Marshal B R Krishna and Defence Secretary, IAS Ajay Kumar laid a wreath at the National war memorial.
Indian Air force chief Air Chief Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari, Navy Chief Admiral R Hari Kumar also paid their homage at the memorial in the memory of lost brave soldiers of the country.
Prime Minister Modi inaugurated the National war memorial in 2019 in memory of soldiers who laid down their lives defending the nation during the Sino-Indian war in 1962, the Indo-Pak wars in 1947, 1965 and 1971, Indian peacekeeping force operations in Sri Lanka and in the Kargil conflict in 1999. It also commemorates the soldiers who participated and made supreme sacrifices in un peacekeeping missions, during HADR operations, counter-insurgency operations and low-intensity capital operations (LICO).
This pillar of bravery and sacrifice contains names of 25,942 soldiers that have been inscribed in golden letters on granite tablets.
Recently, the central government merged the flame of India Gate’s Amar Jawan Jyoti flame with the flame of the National war memorial.
