Ranji Trophy: The Baba brothers create history

The duo displayed a high level of comprehension and, more importantly, intent in their play. Indrajith batted with ease and carried over his previous game’s form to score his second century of the season.

In India, several sets of brothers have played first-class cricket together. CK Nayudu-CS Nayudu, Subash Gupte-Babloo Gupte, Mohinder-Surinder Amarnath, AG Kripal-AG Milkha-AG Satwender, Yusuf-Irfan Pathan, and Hardik-Krunal Pandya are some of the most notable. However, neither of these brothers has ever made a century in the same Ranji Trophy innings.

On the first day of the Ranji Trophy match played at Nehru Stadium in Guwahati, the Baba brothers, Aparajith (101 batting) and Indrajith (127) were in the zone as they cracked century each to put Tamil Nadu in a position of strength at  304 for 4 in 86 overs against Chhattisgarh.

In place of Saravana Kumar, M Siddharth was brought into the squad. While the game started late due to a damp outfield, Tamil Nadu chose to bat first in order to put pressure on the opponent by putting up a big total.

Tamil Nadu was down to 59 for 2 at one point, but the brothers rallied the team to a  total of 265 by the end of the day’s play. Not only for the elegant strokeplay but also for the impact it had on the team’s position on the day, the double hundred stand was worth its weight in gold.
