On Wednesday, Home Minister Amit Shah in Churachandpur, Manipur conducted a rally for the upcoming assembly elections in the state.
During his rally, Shah promised the Mnipuri crowd that if voted in power again they will bring the rebelled youth of Northeast back to the mainstream. “Over 9,500 youth have given up arms and returned to the mainstream. We want to bring all youth in the Northeast back to the mainstream. We will have deliberations with all rebel groups and bring peace in the state,” Shah said.
Home Minister also made an announcement that they will be introducing 16 ‘Khelo India’ centres in 16 districts of the state. The government of India has also invested Rs. 800cr in the state to encourage sports amongst the youth of Manipur. Apart from this, an Olympic park will be constructed in the state for which 10 acres of land has already been allotted.
Shah also condemned the corrupt and malicious government which facilitated militancy in the region. “the state was marred with militancy, corruption and internal fighting within the party during the dark days of the congress government. under the leadership of incumbent chief minister n Biren Singh, Manipur has seen a stable government in the last five years,” he said.
Today, Shah also conducted a ‘door-to-door’ campaign in Imphal and Churachandpur. This time Bharatiya Janata Party has decided to fight on all the 60 assembly seats on their own, without any help from regional parties.
Manipur elections will be held in two phases on February 28th and March 5 and results will be announced on March 10th.
