Papers fake, no verification done- Police on Seemapuri explosives case

3 kgs of IED Improvised Explosive Device was recovered inside a bag in a house in Delhi’s old Seemapuri. Both the owner & property dealer of the house are being interrogated. The explosive items were diffused.

According to Delhi police, the suspects had rented an apartment in the north-eastern part of Delhi using fake documents which were never crosschecked by the property owner, a contractor named Qasim. No verification of the suspects was done. He had rented out the apartment on the second floor through a property dealer named Shakil. While it was taken by one individual, three people were reportedly staying there for the past ten days. All of them fled before the police reached there.

The Delhi Police Special Cell had intercepted several dozen suspicious phone calls that led them to the spot.

According to the police statement, the suspects have been identified by the special Cell and has their photographs as well. While not much else is known about the suspects, they could be part of a sleeper cell or part of a larger conspiracy.

With this explosive having similarity with the one recovered from the Ghazipur flower market ahead of Republic Day last month, the police believe that both these cases might be linked to the same people.

The police also suspect these cases to be linked to a massive bomb blast in car parking at Himachal Pradesh’s Kullu on January 29.
