Derby Day in Barcelona: Espanyol and FC Barcelona draw at 2-2.

The Catalan derby in Barcelona is one of the heated in the world Giants FC Barcelona locked horns with city rivals Espanyol only to draw with them 2-2 at Cornella El Prat in Barcelona.

Barcelona salvaged a 2-2 draw away at city rivals Espanyol in LaLiga on Sunday thanks to a 96th- minute header from substitute Luuk De Jong in a game in which both teams had a man sent off in the final moments.

Before De Jong turned in Adama Traore’s cross to salvage a point, Espanyol seemed ready for their first home league victory over Barcelona in 15 years. As a result of this match, Xavi Hernandez’s side reclaimed fourth place in the Champions League, level on 39  points with Atletico Madrid and one point clear of Real Sociedad in sixth.

The visitors came close via Ferran Torres and Traore, but they were pegged back on the stroke of halftime when Sergi Darder curled an effort in from the edge of the box following superb work from Raul de Tomas. As they attempted to reclaim the lead,  Barca midfielder Gavi had a goal called off by VAR 10 minutes after the restart.

In the 64th minutes, though, they were forced to pay for some sloppy error in defence by Darder, Espanyol’s Raul De Tomas took away the ball who coolly scored and Espanyol seemed to have won the match until Luuk de Jong late goal levelled the score for both sides.
