MUZAFFARNAGAR: A 20-year-old girl was murdered by her family members opposed to her love affair with an inter-caste youth and her body was dumped in fields outside the village in Muzaffarnagar district, police said on Saturday.
Sources in the police suspect that the woman was murdered by her relatives, who then attempted to burn the body to hide evidence of the crime.
Shradhanand Sharma, DCP Fugana, said the girl, Komal Kumari of Sissauli village and Shagun Kumar of Savtu in Shamli were in a relationship. However both their families did not approve of it.
Unable to convince their families the couple eloped some 25 days ago but Komal had returned home alone recently.
The Police are trying to ascertain if she got married.
