Former MP Ajay S Chautala has been released from the Tihar jail in Delhi after serving a ten-year sentence in a Haryana teacher recruitment scam.
Ajay Chautala and his father, former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala, were two of the 55 persons found guilty of illegally hiring nearly 3,000 teachers. In 1999-2000 in Haryana, Ajay Chautala and his father, the leader of the Indian National Lok Dal, or INLD, were found guilty of falsifying documents in order to hire over 3,000 junior basic teachers, or JBT, instead of others who had gone through the regular channels.
Outside Tihar jail, Ajay Chautala was greeted by fans who brought flower bouquets. He gave them hugs and handshakes.
Dushyant Chautala, his son, is Haryana’s Deputy Chief Minister. Following a conflict among the Chautalas, Dushyant Chautala founded the Jannayak Janta Party, or JJP, as a breakaway party of the INLD in 2018.
