Putin ready to compromise after talks with Macron on Ukraine

While still blaming the West for inflaming tensions over Ukraine, Russian President Vladimir Putin said he was willing to compromise and would consider solutions put out by French President Emmanuel Macron at Monday’s discussions.

At a joint news conference, Putin thanked Macron for travelling to Moscow and said the French leader had provided numerous suggestions worth considering.

If Russia invades, the West has repeatedly warned of “grave repercussions,” and Macron was the first senior Western leader to meet with Putin since the crisis began in December.

Macron stated that he provided “specific security assurances” ideas and that Putin “assured me of his willingness to participate.”

The ideas, according to the French president, include both parties agreeing not to take any additional military action, the start of a new strategic conversation, and measures to revive the Ukrainian peace process.

Macron, whose nation presently holds the leadership of the European Union, has attempted to position himself as a crucial EU role in Russia negotiations.
