Kishori Pednekar, the mayor of Mumbai, announced on Tuesday that the city would be unlocked by the end of the month.
On Monday, the city’s daily case tally fell below 500 (356) for the first time since the Omicron wave began in the last week of December. On Monday, the number of cases in the state decreased to a 39-day low of 6,436.
Announcing this Kishori Pednekar said to ANI “There is good news for Mumbaikars. Mumbai will be unlocked by the end of this month.
“We have made up our minds, but it is essential for the people to wear masks and observe social distancing,” she added
The decision by the Mumbai civic authority to reduce Covid restrictions comes after the Maharashtra government eased restrictions in 11 areas where cases had been dropped.
Earlier this month, the city relaxed several restrictions on outdoor activities, allowing access to beaches, gardens, and parks. It had also given the green light for spas and salons to reopen at half-capacity. Restaurants were allowed to operate at 50% capacity when the night ban was lifted.
