VIJAYAWADA: The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Monday expressed displeasure on social media platform Twitter, for failing to remove the alleged derogatory comments posted against the High Court judges and the judiciary. The court demanded to know why the platform is not abiding by the law of the land and its courts when, it is operating out of India.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Prashant Kumar Mishra and Justice M Satyanarayana Murthy, stated that Twitter’s failure to remove the derogatory comments posted on the platform against High Court judges and judiciary is tantamount to contempt of Court and directed the CBI to submit a progress report of the investigation and posted the case hearing to February 7.
Taking exception to the derogatory comments posted on the social media platform against judges of the High Court and judiciary and lack of action on part of the police department, the registrar general of the Andhra Pradesh High Court had filed a petition in the court. Arguing for the CBI on Monday, additional solicitor general (ASG) SV Raju said Twitter is yet to remove the objectionable posts in question.
While those posts are no longer visible, if one logs into their Twitter accounts using Indian nationality, but, they are visible to those using other nationalities. This the additional solicitor general termed as, “Nothing but ignoring the directions of the court”.
