The Bharatiya Janata Party’s office in Manipur has been secured after it was allegedly ransacked by party members after several of them were denied BJP tickets to run in the Manipur Assembly elections. Many people were unhappy with the candidate list, and their disappointment was demonstrated in resignations as well as the burning of effigies of BJP leaders.
Party tickets have been denied to two candidates who were serving MLAs. Several former ministers, MLAs, former MLAs and party office bearers have resigned from the party so far. After this ransack incident, security has been tightened at Bharatiya Janata Party’s office.
Manipur will hold elections in two stages, on February 27 and March 3, for 60 assembly seats. The results will be released on March 10th.
