According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature at most places in the valley went down, hence there are chances of rain or snow on Monday.
Chilla-i-Kalan is a local term in Kashmir used for 40 day period of harsh winter in Kashmir. During Chillai-Kalan, the weather in the valley continues to remain cold with minimum temperatures hovering below the freezing point. The famous Dal Lake and other water bodies froze in this period. The snow that falls during this time period freezes and lasts longer.

The ‘Chilla-i-Kalan’ will finish on 31 January, but the cold wave will continue even later in Kashmir with a 20-day long ‘Chillai-Khurd’ (small cold) and a 10-day long ‘Chillai-Bachha’.
